Exercise is important because it can help keep your heart healthy and your joints and muscles in good working order. Plus exercising just makes you feel good!
Here are some tips on starting and maintaining an exercise regimen that you can live with:
1. Do something you enjoy. If you pick an exercise that you hate, you probably aren’t going to be too successful at keeping up with it. However, if you choose something you love to do - like a brisk walk in the park or swimming, then you’ll look forward to your exercise time every day.
2. Start slow. If you are just starting an exercise program, start off slowly and build your way up. You don’t have to run a marathon the first day.
3. Variety is key. Most people find that having a variety of exercise activities helps keep them from getting bored. If you belong to a gym, you can switch up your routine - do the treadmill one day, the exercise bike the next etc…
4. Make exercise a priority. Your health and well being should be a priority so you need to schedule your exercise time in just like you would any other important appointment. Make every effort to keep your “appointment” you owe it to yourself and your family to be in the best health possible.
Exercise doesn’t have to be hours of strenuous activity. Even adding little things into your daily routine like taking the stairs instead of the elevator and parking in the furthest parking spot and walking to the office or mall can help.
